Clean Energy Systems, Inc.’s HEXCES segment designs, develops, produces, and supports compact platelet heat exchangers (CPHXs) for a wide range of commercial applications. These diffusion bonded heat exchangers, also known as printed circuit heat exchangers (PCHEs) or microchannel heat exchangers (MCHEs), offer high pressure, temperature, and thermal capabilities in a compact package.

The origins of HEXCES may be traced back to the mid-1970s, when the CPHX was created in the aerospace sector, 10 years before the first PCHEs. In reality, HEXCES’ platelet technology may be traced back to the mid-1960s. HEXCES staff have been designing CPHXs for over 35 years and have over 200 years of collective expertise in platelet device design, analysis, fabrication, and testing.

HEXCES carries the following certifications through its parent business Clean Energy Systems, Inc.: ISO 9001:2015 and ASME BPVC U and R Stamps.

HEXCES creates thermal management solutions to satisfy the demands and standards of its customers. We concentrate on compact platelet heat exchangers, or CPHXs. These devices are used to transmit heat energy from one fluid stream to another without mixing the fluids. The name CPHX is derived from two different IDs that distinguish it from other heat exchange devices. For the same purpose, diffusion bonded heat exchangers are generally 1/4 to 1/6 the size of standard shell and tube exchangers.

This is done by the use of platelet technology, which allows for narrow fluid passageways that enable maximal heat transfer surface area in a very compact region, boosting exchanger efficacy while reducing weight and footprint.

This technology can be used in practically any heat exchange process, but it shines in those with extreme operating circumstances, such as those with extremely high working pressures, extreme temperatures (hot or cold), and considerable space (footprint) and/or weight limits.

HEXCES CPHXs are all designed and manufactured in accordance with ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code Section VIII, Division 1.
